Revisions Blog

Image
Hey blog. Today I made the revisions to my film. I took great consideration of Julian's suggestions. I also made some of my own design. Thankfully I won't have to re shoot any scenes. I don't think I would have the time or the energy. All of the revisions can be done on CapCut and it wasn't too difficult. The first thing I revised was the picture quality and filter in the first scenes. The first scenes took place in the gym. The lighting was cold and it was quite bright. The picture was also very clear and looked like a regular video. This isn't necessarily an issue in of itself. I wanted there to be a contrast between these scenes and the later ones in the film. The issue was that the contrast was too great. So I adjusted the exposure to give it a dimmer look. I wanted to keep the contrast so I kept the clear quality. Next I attempted to change the volume of the music during the monster scenes. I found it was difficult to isolate the music per scene so instead I ex

Peer Review Blog

Hey blog. Today I had my friend Julian review our film. To be honest I was hoping that he wouldn't have much to say in terms of criticism, but I also wanted his honest opinion. I put a lot of effort into this film and of course I'm open to critique but I was hoping I did a well enough so that he would be impressed. Surprisingly and thankfully he was greatly impressed with out film. He really liked the camera work and visuals. He said the the picture getting gradually grainier was a nice touch. However he noted that it could have been done smoother. The very beginning scenes were crystal clear in cold lighting. The picture looked too clean and the transition from that to the warmly lit, grainier picture of the later scenes. The contrast was too hard and I could have made these 2 visuals blend more seamlessly. He was also impressed with the use of different camera angles in my shots. he really appreciated the use of both dutch angles and wide shots. He did note that the music

Re-editing Blog

Image
Hey blog. Today I will be re-editing the footage. Thankfully there wasn't much that needed to be re-edited. Some issues came up with the audio. The audio isn't as long as the film is so me and Kevin had to work on this. I had the idea only to include the music for the latter part of the film. The beginning sequence is me and Kevin walking to my house. I figure I don't need music for this sequence. I can either use the background sounds from the  original footage or make it silent. I'm adding the sound towards the middle and I'll make it slowly fade in. During the last walking scene where we're walking on the sidewalk near my house I'll add the music to slowly fade in. I think this will actually work our favor. It would add to the feeling of dread and unease me and Kevin are trying to create. Making this happen was pretty simple. I just had to adjust the placing of the audio file in correspondence to the length of the film. Me and Kevin debated whether or n

Music Blog

Hey blog. I've chosen the sound I will be using for me and Kevin's film. The song is the Tiptoe Through the Tulips cover by Tiny Tim. I chose this song because I find it deeply unsettling and creepy. It's an old song published in the year 1929 sang famously by Nick Lucas. The original was a calming song, this is in heavy contrast with the cover by Tiny Tim. The instruments are slower and  and the vocals are distorted. It's not a necessarily scary song but its deeply unnerving. Making this song perfect for our film. I was lucky enough to find that this song a commercial song and I am able to use it on CapCut without seeking permission. The process of transferring this sound to CapCut was really simple. I simply had to search for the sound on TikTok. I've seen plenty of videos using this sound on TikTok so all I needed to do was search the lyric. I found the sound and chose a video without any excess audio from a creator. Then i download the video to my photo galler

Editing Blog: cropping footage

Image
Hey Blog. Today I edited the footage me and Kevin have gathered for the gym, night walk, and house scenes. Much of the footage was over 45 seconds, way too long to keep intact. I did the majority of the video cropping in my photos app. I mainly had to cut the beginning and end of each clip. These were the parts where me and Kevin would get into position then eventually walk towards the camera to shut it off. Its funny referring to the phone as a camera. If anything its not the budget of the film its the imagination and skill of the cameraman. It took me about an hour to crop all of the footage into good clips that were short enough to fit nicely into the time restraints of the film. After all the base cropping I uploaded the footage to CapCut. That's where I will be doing majority of the editing. After putting together all of the clips I realized I had done the math wrong. So I had to edit each of their lengths again. It didn't take me too long but I wish I had done it righ

Reshoot Blog: Monster/Action scenes

Image
Hey blog, today I had to re-shoot all of the scenes where the monster is present. It was a feeling of disbelief when I reviewed the footage only to find that the footage was not only in terrible picture quality, but some segments of footage wouldn't even load properly. The footage looked as if it had been filmed with a microwave. All of the action scenes that I had filmed smoothly were now choppy, glitch y, and pixelated. This is mostly likely due to the fact that there was an internet outage when Kevin had sent me the footage and I had to download it with one bar and limited storage. Typically with larger files I use wifi so it helps maintain the original quality of the videos sent. This was a major set back for the day because now instead of editing footage we now had to dedicate another day to gathering the footage all over again. It was rough. I didn't have much motivation to re-shoot all of those scenes. I was very proud with the original footage, and seeing it all go

Filming Blog: Filming the house scenes

Image
Hey blog, yesterday I began gathering footage of the house scenes. This was a much less stressful day for me. Since we would be filming in the comfort of my own home I didn't need to worry about too many factors being outside of my control. I wanted to put more focus on the action scenes since those would be the hardest to film and would also take the most time and resources to prepare for. I wanted to make use of the dim warm lighting my house already has. I adjusted all of the lamps to be bright enough to see everything in the foreground clearly, while keeping the back and middle ground relatively obscure. I wanted to continue that feeling that something was wrong, even if the audience couldn't exactly tell why. I focused less on the montage footage. I was able to get really creative with the angles. I stood on chairs and got my phone is strange angles with this tripod my dad had lent me. I wanted to make the montage and atmosphere tense and off putting, even if what was ac

Filming Blog: Gym scene footage

Image
Hey blog. Today yesterday I attempted to gather footage for the gym scenes that take place in the beginning of me and partners film. I woke up early as always for school and made sure to bring my tripod and some small lights. After school is when we went to gather footage and to be honest I have never been so tired. it had been a long day and the last thing I wanted to do was gather footage. We went to this gym near my place because its closest, but of course I couldn't get Kevin in. my membership is only for one person so that meant our initial plan had to be scrapped. I was really stressed out about this. We based our entire filming schedule that day based off that location, and now we couldn't film there. Thankfully I called a close friend of mine and he happened to have this small private gym near his house with enough space and equipment to film. I was so relieved, the only issue was it was near the beach and about 3 miles away. But I was determined to gather this footage
